POTTERY fragments which could date back centuries have been discovered in Peterborough's historic Cathedral Square. An archaeological dig is being carried out in areas of the square prior to the installation of a series of water features.
The project is being led by Opportunity Peterborough and should be completed by the end of today.
The urban regeneration company is working with Peterborough Museum to identify the fragments found.
A spokeswoman for Opportunity Peterborough said the work being carried out is standard for major projects such as the water feature installations.
She added: “The archaeological dig is going really well and we’re doing what we need to do, which is paving the way forward.”
The water features and other improvements to Cathedral Square are part of a major overhaul to breathe new life into the city centre.
