THE proportion of people with diabetes in Peterborough is higher than the national average, according to new figures released by the NHS.

THE proportion of people with diabetes in Peterborough is higher than the national average, according to new figures released by the NHS.Four per cent of city residents over the age of 17 have been diagnosed with diabetes, compared to an average of 3.8 per cent in similar health authority areas throughout the country.

NHS Diabetes, an organisation set up to combat levels of the illness, says obesity is a common cause of diabetes, and between 2003 and 2005, 27 per cent of adults in Peterborough were classified as obese – a figure higher than the national average.
