A CITY worker has been spurred on to run the London Marathon after his son was born with a rare bone marrow condition.Jon Oldham, who works at the BGL Group, in Orton Southgate is gearing himself up for the 26-mile race on April 13 where he will run in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust.
The 37-year-old’s son, Ollie, was born with Myleodysplasia a rare, pre-leukaemia condition and needed donor platelets – the cells which help the blood to clot – at just three weeks old.
He had his first bone marrow transplant at eight months and spent the first year of his life in and out of hospital.
Baby Ollie is now 20 months old and still has monthly check-ups - but the operation saved his life, which is why Mr Oldham, from Buckden, near Huntingdon, is determined to run the marathon in aid of the bone marrow transplant charity.
Mr Oldham is keen to raise as much money as possible as BGL Group has pledged to match any funds raised up to a maximum contribution of 1,000.
