Cricket star Charlotte Edwards up for award
Ramsey cricket star Charlotte Edwards has been shortlisted for the Ultimate Sports Star Award for a woman's magazine.
Ramsey cricket star Charlotte Edwards has been shortlisted for the Ultimate Sports Star Award for a woman's magazine.The 29-year-old captain of the England women's cricket team will swap her cricket whites and boots for a dress and heels when she travels down to London for the glamourous Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women Of The Year Awards on November 11.
The awards will be held at the Banqueting House, Whitehall, London and judges in this year's panel include Sarah Brown, Fearne Cotton, Vernon Kay, Alesha Dixon and Cosmopolitan editor Louise Court.
Charlotte, who grew up in Pidley near Peterborough, was awarded an MBE for Services to Cricket in the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours List after she captained the England team to victory in the World Cup in March this year.
She also led the team to victory in the World Twenty20 championships in June and retained the Ashes in July.
Charlotte has also been heavily involved in promoting cricket since she began her international career.
Working with Chance To Shine, a programme that encourages girls in state schools to take up the sport, she has been committed to ensuring the future of the game is bright.
She said: "It's something I'm very proud of and it's a great way to raise the profile of women's cricket even more."
A spokeswoman for Cosmopolitan said: "Charlotte has received the nomination as an inspirational captain who has transformed the England women's cricket team into a sporting force to be reckoned with and for her success in breaking down barriers between men and women's cricket."
