Court: Voyeur had camera hidden in bag at gym

A MAN with a crush on a male work colleague at the Land Registry offices in Peterborough hid a video camera in a bag to film him in a gym changing room, a court has heard.Keith Taylor (45) of Pierce Crescent, in Warmington, near Oundle, used a camcorder in an Armani bag to video the victim on September 22, last year.

Peterborough Crown Court heard yesterday (Thursday) how he was caught after a different colleague using the gym on the top floor of the Land Registry office, in Touthill Close, City Road, became suspicious of the holes in the bag and raised the alarm.

Hugh Vass, prosecuting, said: "It appears he had a crush on a fellow employee. He had the camcorder on, presumably to view the work colleague naked."

Taylor pleaded guilty to one charge of voyeurism.

He also apologised to the court for his actions.

Taylor was given a three-year supervised community order and was also put on the sex offender's register for five years.

Sentencing, Judge Neil McKittrick said: "After a number of years of unblemished service for the Land Registry you, for the want of a better phrase, got a crush on a male employee.

"At some point, you decided you would like to make a video of him for viewing purposes.

He added: "It is absolutely right to say there is no evidence that you intended to distribute the videos.

"I am sure the victim of this incident was shocked by it.

"But it has been a year or more that's passed and I'm sure he has put that behind him."
