Cathedral gets a new dean

A NEW dean has been appointed to Peterborough Cathedral.

A NEW dean has been appointed to Peterborough Cathedral.Canon Charles Taylor, who is currently Precentor of Lichfield Cathedral, will take up his post in March next year.

He succeeds the Very Rev Michael Bunker, who retired earlier this year.

Canon Taylor said: “It will be hard for me and my family to leave Lichfield, where we have spent 12 very happy and formative years. However, I relish the opportunity to be part of the life and worship in such a wonderful sacred space as Peterborough Cathedral.

“I also look forward to working with the splendid team which leads its mission and ministry, to helping further strengthen the partnership between the cathedral and the vibrant city, and to developing strong links with the diocese and the region it embraces.

“Thanks to my predecessor and those who worked with him, Peterborough Cathedral now has a firm foundation from which to exercise its ministry as a centre for worship and mission.

“It will be a privilege to lead it in partnership with Bishop Ian and his staff.”

The Bishop of Peterborough, the Rt Rev Ian Cundy, said he was “delighted” to welcome Canon Charles to the diocese and the cathedral.

“He will bring to the task of dean his considerable experience of leadership in cathedrals and large churches,” the bishop said..

“His concern to build bridges between the church and the community will be appreciated in the city and throughout the diocese.
