CAPTAIN Mark Phillips yesterday unveiled the challenging cross country course which will test riders at this year's prestigious horse trials at Burghley Park.Princess Anne's former husband has put together a new route designed to test the world's best when the trials start on September 4.

Herbert's Hollow, Waterloo Plain, Capability's South and Trout Hatchery Goose are just some of the names which will be giving many of the riders nightmares as they seek to complete the course.

Among the riders will be Team GB's Olympic bronze medal winning riders, who have confirmed they will be taking part in the event.

The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials run from September 4 to September 7 and are held in the grounds of Burghley House, in Stamford.

Last year's winner and Olympian, William Fox-Pitt on Parkmore Ed, will be returning to defend his title at the event which will crown the best rider and horse at dressage, cross country and show-jumping.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the trials, and alongside the riding there will be 600 stands and food walks, with the event as well known for the quality of its shopping as it is for sport.

Tickets are available by calling the box office, on 01933 304744, and for more information, visit www.burghley-horse.co.uk.
