Botolph Green: Planning gets under way for next festival

AS the dust settles on a third successful St Botolph Day Festival, organisers behind the event are already planning for next year's "better than ever" festival.Thousands of people packed Botolph Green, off Oundle Road, in Peterborough, for the annual festival, which is proving to be a hit with the community.

A huge raft of activities took place throughout last weekend, keeping both adults and children entertained as they basked in the warm early summer sunshine.

However, rather than taking the plaudits for a highly enjoyable weekend, organiser John Sharman, chairman of the Botolph Green Residents' Association, says plans for next year have begun.

"What we always do after the event is get the committee together and write down what improvements we can make in areas each member is responsible for, and that's what we are doing now.

"We will record all of that and talk about it during a meeting, which will take place in the next 10 days.

"I don't think we will make it bigger next year, just a bit better. We'll fill in the areas where we felt that we could do better than we did this year.

"This year we were blessed with good weather, and the rear positioning of the marquee turned out to be ideal. We would like to make improvements for children and activities in the marquee on Saturday," said Mr Sharman.

Orton Longueville ward councillor Janet Goodwin attended both days of the "absolutely fabulous" festival and said that she hopes it continues to grow.

She added: "It was absolutely packed and everyone was really enjoying themselves, which made it a great atmosphere. A lot of hard work goes into it and to get that response makes it worthwhile.

"I actually honestly think they have got quite a good balance of events. It was improved this year from previous years and they have been learning as they go along.

"One of the things that was very popular was the cart horse ride and the dance on Saturday night was a popular one. I think it's encouraging that they are getting better every year."
