Bettaland, a project to get the next generation of children keen on becoming green is going from strength to strength – thanks to a Crowland firm.Bettaland is based at Decoy Farm, has donated 50 tonnes of compost to the Green Backyard Project, in London Road, Peterborough.
Owner Andrew Riddington said: "We have a contract to take all of the green waste from Peterborough City Council and compost it.
"We support various local projects, including this one.
"We have been pleased to be able to support such an innovative, interesting initiative."
Father and daughter team Renny and Sophie Antonelli were given permission to set the project up in May, but are still in negotiations with the city council over the terms of the lease.
It is currently being funded privately.
Mr Antonelli said: "The idea behind the project is that it will be a demonstration facility for schools and children to get to grips with fruit and veg.
"They will also learn about sustainability, arts and crafts and recycling.
"It's a really exciting project, and we are really grateful to Bettaland for supporting it.
"We have had a lot of help from various sources.
"EDF Energy gave us a couple of thousand pounds to stitch a shed together, John Lewis gave us MDF from its store that it no longer wanted to use, and St John Fisher School gave us a lot of paving slabs."
