POLICE are to use new crime-prevention technology at today's Peterborough United friendly match against Premiership giants Liverpool.Anyone in the London Road crowd with the Bluetooth facility enabled on their mobile phone will receive a text asking if they would like to receive a message from Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

If they accept, the message, which is free of charge, will read: “Welcome to Peterborough United versus Liverpool.

“We hope that you enjoy the match and have a safe journey home. Remember to keep your valuables with you and out of sight. Remember to remove your sat navs from your vehicles. Don’t advertise your property to thieves.”

Posters and leaflets advertising the use of Bluetooth will also be distributed at the stadium.

Chief Superintendent Paul Phillipson said: “I am really pleased with our use of Bluetooth messaging, and it shows that we are using the latest technology in our ongoing campaign to make Peterborough a safer place in which to live, work or visit.

“It will continue to be used at football matches and other locations where there are large crowds to update people on the issues around them, whether they involve safety or crime prevention.”
