Anti-social behaviour is police's priority

TACKLING anti-social behaviour will be a top priority for police in the Ortons.

TACKLING anti-social behaviour will be a top priority for police in the Ortons. At a meeting of the Ortons Neighbourhood Police Panel on Wednesday night residents highlighted anti-social behaviour, including noisy and rowdy behaviour, as their biggest concern in the area.

The meeting, held at the Goldhay Community Centre, in Paynells, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, saw more than 20 residents turn up to help set the priorities.

Police sergeant Simon Goldsmith, who covers the Ortons patch, said the problems were particularly bad in two areas of the Ortons.

He said: “I would recommend we focus on the Gannocks and Church Drive area of Orton Waterville, and the Herlington Centre in Orton Malborne.

“I have had a number of complaints from residents about behaviour and parking on double yellow lines in these areas.”

A number of residents also expressed concerns about an increase in the number of mini-moto bikes in the area, and Sgt Goldsmith said a number of specialist patrols on motorbikes would tackle the problem.

The three priorities set at the meeting were to tackle anti-social behaviour at the Herlington Centre, tackle anti-social behaviour in the Gannocks and Church Drive area, and to combat mini-moto use.

The next meeting will take place at the community centre on Wednesday, October 7.
