BOURNE MP Quentin Davies has called for members of Lincolnshire Police Authority to resign in the wake of its 78.9 per cent tax hike being capped. The Government decided to cap the rise at 26 per cent, which means every home in Lincolnshire will have to be rebilled.
Mr Davies said: "I think the authority showed complete irresponsibility in demanding such an absurd level of increase. It seems to have no regard for the interests of Lincolnshire council tax payers."
A statement from the authority said members would not resign.
It said: "The police authority is not prepared to run away from this problem.
"The Government has not allowed the funding necessary for Lincolnshire police to come from local tax, but this does not mean that need is no longer there."
