ORGANISERS of the 2009 Peterborough Festival have vowed to turn the event into a cultural spectacular that will bring the feel-good factor to the city. The council have revealed that the programme of events for the arts extravaganza will be held over three weeks for the first time in its history.
And despite a credit-crunch budget of 75,000, it is hoped residents and businesses in the city will support the revamped event in huge numbers and put the "feel-good factor" back into the city,
Central Park will again kick off the festivities on June 20 with the carnival atmosphere of the Mayor's Parade.
The City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra will ensure a more classical evening on the Sunday and the following weekend events will move to the city centre.

Hoping to showcase Peterborough's rich historical legacy will be a heritage festival – with medieval markets, Shakespearean performances and other events – and the final weekend at the Embankment will be a "country comes to town" event.
Arts development and events manager Dave King said organisers had learned the lessons of past festivals to produce an event that was purely Peterborough and had a three to five year plan in place.
He said: "Previously, the identity of the festival changed every year and people wondered what the event had to do with them – last year's theme, for instance, was "summer fantasy".
"Now we have a three-year plan and have rebranded it The Peterborough Festival, with no external theme, and will try to grow it each year.
"We only have 11 weeks until it starts so don't expect Edinburgh this year, but we are looking to create a real buzz on the streets of the city."
But with a diverse programme promised with medieval re-enactments and blues bands to open-mic comedy slots and pavement artists it's hoped that a vibrant festival will be announced at the official launch on Saturday, 18 April.
