A team from Nene Park Academy has reached the semi-finals of a national investment competition.

Sixth form students Abbie Kirke, Bradley Sprouse, Lauren Coles and Mitchell Pears made nearly £25,000 dealing in virtual shares in just three months of trading.

The trading was on the FTSE 100 companies. The FTSE index consists of the largest 100 UK companies by market value.

The team, called Original Wolf, beat not only the professionals but also more than 30,000 other students across the UK in the ifs Student Investor Challenge.

The competition, run by ifs University College and supported by Bloomberg, provides teams with £100,000 of virtual money to buy and sell shares in FTSE 100 companies.

The semi-final is already underway with a four week long online challenge. The top two teams from each region will progress to the live final in April.

The top prize is an all expenses paid to trip to New York and £2,000 for their school.
