Talented students stage a grand fundraising effort
CREATIVE pupils at a Peterborough school have raised more than £1,000 for local charities.
The youngsters at Nene Park Academy staged a series of wacky activities including, waxing their legs, a talent show, slave for a day and Christmas hair dos.
They raised a total of £1,714.
A school spokesman said: “Students took part in the global Movember event to raise money for prostate cancer by growing moustaches during the month of November.
“The school also organised events for Children in Need and a charities morning in the last week of term, where students could attend lessons in fancy dress.”
Each ‘house’ within Nene Park Academy chose a charity to raise funds for.
Causes included the Alzheimer’s Society, Sue Ryder, White Feather Foundation, Macmillan Cancer and Cancer Research UK.
Head teacher Mark Woods said: “We’re so proud of our pupils for raising such an impressive amount.
“There is a real community spirit here at the school and a lot of pupils are personally involved in the charities we’ve raised money for.
“The vast majority of activities have been arranged by the pupils themselves and the amount raised is a testament to their hard work and effort.”
