School builds on its historical links overseas
A HEADMISTRESSS is seeking to build on the historical links between a Peterborough school and her home country of Sierra Leone.
Mrs Alice Daramay, who runs the Islamic Call Society Primary School in Moyamba has been visiting Wisbech Grammar School to help create a partnership between the two schools.
During her eight day visit Mrs Daramay observed a variety of lessons, including textiles, mathematics, German, history, geography, physics and English.
Afterwards, Mrs Daramay said one of the most significant differences between the two schools was the lack of computers.
“We have a computer centre, but we do not have enough machines. I would like assistance for the computer centre at Moyamba so that our children also will be able to learn about computers.”
The connection between the two countries goes back 220 years to former pupil John Clarkson, instrumental in the founding of Freetown, which is the country’s capital city.
