Fundraising children were given a surprise at a school assembly when they were awarded a trophy for collecting money during the Poppy Appeal.

The Yaxley branch of the Royal British Legion presented the trophy at St Michael’s Church of England School in Cardea on Monday, March 16.

The award is handed out to a school in Yaxley and the nearby district which raised the most money in proportion to the number of pupils it has.

The children at St Michael’s, including Lois Ekundaylmi, Ella-Ma Close and Charlie Chippington, raised just under £200 during a two week period before Remembrance Day last year.
