CITY bosses have signed a ground-breaking deal to bring a pioneering education centre to Peterborough.

Cranfield University and Peterborough City Council signed the contract on Friday to develop education and research in renewable energy and bio-fuels.

The partnership includes a £60,000 donation from Peterborough Renewable Energy Ltd (PREL) and will involve the appointment of a Professor of Renewable Energy to create a Centre for Renewable Energy and Bio-Fuels to be built as part of the South Bank redevelopment in Peterborough.

The centre will run postgraduate degree programmes, short courses and research projects as well as support city employers working to develop renewable energy, bio-fuels and environmental innovation.

Cllr John Holdich, the council’s cabinet member for education and university, said: “This partnership is a real coup as it will put the city at the forefront of innovation in environmental technology.”

What pleasure it is to live where the likes of Bunter and others in the city love to denigrate positive developments. I am not sorry we are investing in a City that deserves a university. Neither am disappointed at supporting the Council with that shared aim. I think more business' should combine to support Education and the wider community. Yes J Holdich is my father in law and I am proud of that, of course if, you prefer we can always support Lincoln or Cambridge instead? Oh and for bunter, to stop spreading micro pollutants try not using a car, any fossil fuel powered devices, your gas boiler, don't compost anything either because the micro bio aerosols released are even worse. For your information our particulate control system is the best available - so good if they made cigarette filters from it you would get ZERO nicotine.

They'll be able to thoroughly investigate whether the siting of wind turbines downwind of and close to the PREL furnaces helps to spread any micro-pollutants over a wider area of the Fens, ensuring that everybody gets their fair share.
