Lucrative contract for school build

A CONTRACT to create four new classrooms at Heltwate School has been granted to EN Suiter Ltd by Peterborough City Council.

The £777,488 contract will build classroom space that will enable the school in Bretton to expand its capacity by 32 pupils.

The council’s cabinet member for education, Cllr John Holdich has made the decision.

It can still be challenged by other councillors but if no objection is raised by Wednesday it will be ratified.

Cllr Holdich said: “As the number of pupils in Peterborough increases, the requirement for special school places is rising. If appropriate places are not available, pupils are transported to out of city placements.

“That can result in vulnerable children spending long periods on transport, or living away from home. Six contractors were invited to tender, four of whom returned tender documentation.”

The building project will be funded by the Children’s Services Capital Project.
