Thursday, 11.30am: Figures showing how primary schools have been performing in and around Peterborough have been released this morning (December 12).

The data ranks the schools in the authority according to the percentage of pupils achieving Level Four - the expected level for the age group - or above in reading, writing and maths at Key Stage Two.

Top of the class in Peterborough are the John Clare Primary School and The King’s (the Cathedral) School, both of which achieved 100 per cent and had to be separated by other data.

Bottom of the class is Bishop Creighton Primary School on 39 per cent.

Six schools, in all, failed to meet the Government’s floor standard, which includes at least 60 per cent of pupils achieving Level Four or above in reading, writing and mathematics, but also takes into account the progress made by learners in these areas.

This translates as 12 per cent of the schools in Peterborough, which is among the highest proportions for a local authority in England.

Cllr John Holdich, cabinet member for education at Peterborough City Council, cautioned against Peterborough being compared to other local authorities.

He said: “Peterborough has its particular challenges and shouldn’t be linked to other authorities.”

He added: “The figures are being analysed at this point in time. We will be able to give a greater, more informed comment tomorrow.”

New primary free schools that do not yet have test results will also show n/a.
