Governor announces school’s choice to join academy trust

A SCHOOL which teaches more than 1,400 students has announced that it has joined a trust of academies.

The Deepings School, in Park Road, Deeping St James, revealed yesterday that it has become the seventh academy to join the CfBT Schools Trust.

Chairman of governors at the school, Jonathan Theobalds said: “Our governing body very carefully considered the merits of becoming a standalone trust or the option of joining a multi-academy trust.

“The CfBT Schools Trust provided an excellent fit for our aspirations for school improvement, professional support and the opportunity to broaden our horizons and work with other schools both nationally and internationally.

“We have encountered a number of significant site and transfer hurdles during the conversion process and CfBT’s support to overcome these has been exemplary.”

Headteacher Chris Beckett added: “Our aim was to convert to academy status last September and the delays during this interim period have been somewhat frustrating.

“At last we can now move forward and plan for an exciting future which will see The Deepings School expand, develop new facilities and continue to be at the forefront of educational change within Lincolnshire and the wider trust.

“We have worked with the CfBT for a number of years and this formal partnership is a natural extension of our work.”

Andy Breckon, director of academies for CfBT Schools Trust, said: “CfBT has a proven track record in sustained improvement and performance in our existing academies and our strength lies in our diverse portfolio of academies.

“All of our schools work collaboratively to raise the performance of every school for the benefit of its students and the wider education community locally.”
