Youngsters at a Peterborough school have turned detectives after discovering a time capsule dating back more than 30 years.

Children at Eyrescroft Primary School in Bretton are trying to trace the former pupils who helped put the capsule together in 1980.

The relic was uncovered from beneath a school grate last year after teaching assistant Debbie Keniston remembered it being buried when she was a pupil there.

Pupils now want to get in touch with its makers to learn more about what their school and the world was like 32 years ago.

The capsule is an old biscuit tin containing a letter from former Class 3 teacher Brian Fisher and letters and drawings from each of the class pupils.

Kelly Colasurdo, the school’s Key Stage Two leader, said: “Pupils are trying to find out who wrote the letters so we can invite them into school and find out more.”

Anyone who remembers making the capsule can contact Debbie on 01733 262190.
