THE CALL is out for hardy cyclists to take on a 42-mile bike ride to help raise money to benefit children at a city pre-school.

Peterborough Mountain Bike Club is organising the fundraising challenge so that East Community Pre-School, in Star Road, can buy some outdoor play equipment for the children to use.

The 42-mile bike ride will be along the Green Wheel, in and around Peterborough and the surrounding towns, which will start at 9am on Sunday, February 12.

It is being organised by Jim Mclean. He runs the club and is also the chairman of the pre-school.

Mr Mclean said: “I run the mountain bike club and being a chairman of the pre-school I thought it would be good to raise a bit of money for the pre-school.

“The pre-school does not get much funding and at the moment there is not a lot outside except for the garden.

“When you look at other schools nearby with nice outdoor climbing frames and play houses we thought we would like something similar to that.”

Anyone interested in taking part in the sponsored bike ride or sponsoring Jim should email him in advance of the event at james_mclean@live.co.uk
