STUDENTS and staff went head-to-head in a bake-off competition at a city college to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

Teachers and students at Peterborough Regional College, in Park Crescent, used their spatulas in anger as they competed to serve up a stunning sponge on Thursday.

It was one of series of special events held at the college across the week to boost interest in apprenticeships in the city.

The college wants to give its students as many opportunities as possible to break their way into the working world using its excellent links with local businesses.

On Tuesday, former winner of The Apprentice, Lee McQueen, visited the college to give a talk about his career; while on Wednesday college staff tried out apprenticeship roles for themselves.
