YOUNGSTERS gathered to plant an apple tree to celebrate the opening of a new affordable housing development in Peterborough.
Children from Brewster Avenue Infants School planted the tree at a ceremony held to mark the completion of work on the eight homes for Cross Keys Homes in Orchard Street, Woodston.
The children also enjoyed a tour of the development, learning about how houses are built and the energy saving measures used in them.
The development, built by Stepford Homes, includes five two-bedroom properties and three three-bedroom properties.
Each property has air source heat pumps which provide heating and hot water, high levels of thermal insulation, water butts, and compost bins, which has enabled the homes to meet sustainable homes standards.
Cross Keys Homes’ head of development, Ian Richardson said: “We are pleased to be providing eight homes for affordable rent in this area which is close to the city centre and will help local people who cannot afford to buy on the open market.”
