Doughnut giant Krispy Kreme is to open a restaurant and production hub in Peterborough.

Work has just started on the construction of a 4,577 square feet Hotlight store in Cygnet Green, Ashbourne Road, Hampton.

We’re delighted to have let this unit to such a well-known and well-loved global firm.

Nigel Jones, development director.

It is expected that the 40 covers restaurant will be open this summer.

The facilities will include a ‘drive-thru’ lane and a production hub supplying fresh doughnuts to all Krispy Kreme in-store cabinets within a one hour radius of Cygnet Green.

Judith Denby, chief marketing officer at Krispy Kreme, said: “Our Hotlight stores provide the ultimate way for doughnut lovers to experience the joy and excitement of Krispy Kreme, and we can’t wait to open the doors in Peterborough later this summer.”

The lease has been agreed with national property developers Sladen Estates jointly with Peveril Securities. The store will be one of 11 in the UK.

Ms Denby said: “It will allow customers to see and smell the magic at work in its unique doughnut theatre – a true sensory experience.

“From hand-dipping the doughnuts to sprinkling and piping the decorative finishes, Krispy Kreme’s skilled production teams will be working around the clock to ensure each doughnut in its 16 strong range is unique and tastes delicious.

“The store will also offer customers two great doughnut companions - Krispy Kreme coffee, made from 100 per cent freshly ground Arabica beans and served however you like it by the store’s dedicated baristas, and its delicious and creamy Kreme shakes.”

Sladen Estates has begun the construction of the new unit.

Development director at Sladen Estates, Nigel Jones, said: “We’re delighted to have let this unit to such a well-known and well-loved global firm.

“Cygnet Green has proved to be an extremely popular development. Phases one and two of the project have seen restaurants built for Toby Carvery and KFC alongside a 30,000 sq ft health and fitness centre operated by Peterborough City Council.

“The Krispy Kreme unit will complete the final plot on the site.”

The development follows on from Sladen and Peveril’s previous developments at Hampton which include a 48,000 square foot office building for MasterCard subsidiary Access Prepaid and restaurant units for Chiquito, Frankie and Benny’s, Harvester and Bella Italia.
