A Whittlesey resident celebrated her 100th birthday in the company of family who had travelled from as far out as the USA for the special occasion.

Joyce Slater, a resident of The Elms Residential and Nursing Home in Arnold’s Lane, was joined on Tuesday, September 29 by her family which included grandchildren and great grandchildren.

But it was her daughter Sue who covered the most miles to join Joyce after flying in from Philadelphia in the US.

Joyce was also visited by Councillor Julie Windle and the Mayor of Whittlesey, Councillor Alex Miscandlon, who presented her with flowers on behalf of the town council.

Staff at the home also gave Joyce a big sponge cake, nicely presented scented body wash and a card to go alongside the one she received from the Queen.

Activities coordinator Michelle Burley said: “She was surprised to all her family but she had a really great day.”
