Police will robustly tackle burglaries in Peterborough, according to the city’s new area commander.

Superintendent Melanie Dales has herself been burgled so knows the effect it can have on people.

And she therefore disagrees with Sara Thornton, the head of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, who said the public should not expect to see an officer come round if their home is burgled. She said: “I completely disagreed with that. To have your home violated is one of the times in your life where you are vulnerable and need a level of support from the police.

“We will make sure we deal with all investigations thoroughly.”
