Newsagent John Green, who lives within 50 metres of shop, was woken by his Alsatian dog Xena barking: “She’s always alert. I know exactly when the newspapers and magazines arrive each morning.

“I saw the car speeding off and I heard the crash of the vehicle into the side of the shop. They did not get anything, but there are a few cracks and it’s a repair job. But it will be business as usual today. Bit of inconvenience for the customers, but what can you do?”

Crime scene investigators are due to arrive at 8am. Green End Road around top of Beaumaris Road is likely to be closed until lunchtime.
