A police sergeant based in Peterborough has been found not guilty of a number of offences and may face a retrial on a further two counts.

Spencer Evans (41) was acquitted on two counts of harassment and one count of sexual assault by penetration at St Alban’s Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday, November 18).

The jury failed to reach a verdict on counts of harassment and common assault. The judge has extended Sgt Evan’s bail for seven days for consideration of a retrial.

Sgt Evans, based at Bridge Street Police Station, remains suspended from duty.
