Police reveal 11 Peterborough streets targeted by car thieves in last seven days

Peterborough police are warning residents to be vigilant after a spate of 17 thefts from vehicles in the Orton area in the last week

The streets targeted, some several times, are: Bathurst, Bringhurst, Shortfen, Sevenacres, Tanhouse, Chandlers, Marsham, Pennington, Sellers Grange, The Crescent, Orton Longueville and Sunningdale, Orton Waterville.

In many cases vehicles had been left insecure and items such as cash, a handbag, sunglasses and a mobile phone were taken. A window was smashed on one vehicle and a wallet taken from a side compartment.

A police spokesman said: “Please be vigilant and report anything suspicious. It is really important that all vehicles are left secure with nothing on show.

“Please check your vehicles before you go to bed (listen for the click and look for the flash of lights to confirm).

“As mentioned previously, I would recommend a driveway alarm for those residents who are able to park on their driveways at home. These are excellent and will alert you to any intruders. Great for protecting your car, garage, shed and home at night.”

Anyone who sees anything suspicious or has information about the thefts should call police on 101.
