School children set fire to books in Peterborough after finishing exams.

Fire crews from Dogsthorpe were called to a fire in the open in Drain Road, Newborough at 3.10pm on Friday (June 19).

Watch Commander Tony Fitzjohn said: “We appreciate that leaving school for some is a time of celebration, however, this sort of behaviour is anti-social in our community.

“We would strongly discourage anyone from burning their schools books. These small nuisance fires tie up valuable fire service resources that may be needed at a real emergency.”
