A 50-year-old man from Peterborough has appeared in court charged with the murder of a respected historian.

The Oxford-educated academic, who also dealt in antiques and collected Harry Potter books, was discovered in his hallway.

Prosecutor Michael Roques told a hearing at Oxford Crown Court that the cause of Mr Greenwood’s death was multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck.

Michael Danaher, of Hadrians Court, Peterborough, appeared in court via video-link and was remanded in custody until his next hearing on July 1.

A trial, expected to last 10 days, is due to start on October 3.
