Owner's disgust after charity box stolen from Whittlesey shop

A shop owner said she is disgusted at a charity box being stolen from her store in Whittlesey.

Lucy Morton, owner of Hidden Gems in Eastgate, was raising money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation when at least £80 was stolen earlier this week.

She said she was the second business in Whittlesey to have a charity box stolen in the past week.

She added: “It made me cry. My dad passed away from lung cancer 18 months ago and I was doing this in memory of him.

“It’s quite disgusting someone thinks they deserve the money more.

“Since the theft I’ve donated money and so has Lucy’s Flowers so the charity does not go without.”

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said it was called to reports of a theft at the shop.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
