A number of residents contacted the Peterborough Telegraph saying they had heard the loud bangs between 9pm and 2am. The residents said the bangs would be too loud for fireworks.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said they had received a number of calls, but the source of the noise was not known. The spokesman said: “We had a number of calls at about 2am, including from residents in Mountsteven Avenue and Derwent Drive. The calls were reporting loud bangs in the area.
“Officers went to investigate, but were unable to find the source of the problems.”
