A 97-year-old woman died of multiple traumatic injuries after crashing on the A47, a coroner has recorded.

Phyllis Burton of Wingfield, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, was killed when her red Daihatsu Charade was involved in a head-on collision with a silver Honda Jazz on the A47 at Bretton Gate at about 11am on Tuesday, October 13.

The driver of the Honda Jazz, a woman in her 40s from Werrington, is in a critical state in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, after her condition worsened.

The inquest into Mrs Burton’s death opened at the Peterborough Register Office this morning (Tuesday, October 27).

After delivering his verdict, coroner David Heming adjourned the inquest until March 22.

Anyone who may have seen the collision, or the cars in the moments leading up to it, is asked to contact the road policing unit on 101.
