REGIONAL ROADS: A motorist has been seriously injured on the A1 southbound at Sawtry after a multi vehicle collision.

The crash happened at 8am, and a 30-year-old man from Peterborough has been taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious head injuries.

Magpas helimedix worked with the East of England Ambulance Service and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue to release the trapped man.

A Magpas spokesman said the man was in a serious but stable condition at hospital.

The man was travelling in a van, which became trapped between two lorries in the crash at the slip road onto the A14.

Another car left the road in the incident, and an East of England Ambulance service spokesman said a woman aged in her 20s from Ramsey had suffered minor cuts and bruises in the incident.

The road has now re-opened.

The drivers of the two lorries, a man in his 40s from Sheffield, and a man in his 50s from Lakenheath, were uninjured.
