Alan Chamberlain, (65), was arrested on February 6 last year after police received reports of him abusing three girls over a period of 38 years.

He was charged with rape of a girl aged 14 to 16, sexual assault on a girl aged 16 to 17 and ten counts of indecent assault on girls aged between five and 18, however he denied the allegations.

The court heard how Chamberlain abused his victims between 1978 and 2012. One of the victims was between five and 14-years-old at the time of the offending, with the abuse spanning a period of nine years. Another was 16 at the time of the offences which lasted for a year, while the third girl was aged between 14 and 17 at the time of the abuse which happened over a period of four years.

The jury unanimously found Chamberlain, of Feldale Place in Whittlesey, guilty of all charges, after just three hours of deliberation following a week-long trial at Peterborough Crown Court.

Detective Constable Amanda Sylvester, from the Child Abuse Investigation and Safeguarding Unit (CAISU), said: “I would like to thank the victims for their bravery in coming forward and helping us to convict their abuser – he is now in a place where he can’t harm any other children, and your actions have helped us do that.”

Anyone who has suffered abuse as a child is encouraged to contact police by calling 101.
