Man denies halal lamb re-labelling scam

A man charged in connection with an alleged scam which saw consumers eat turkey they believed to be halal lamb denied he wrongly re-labelled meat to defraud customers.

Mohammed Anwarul Hoque (56) of Uplands Road, Oadby, told Leicester Crown Court he “100 per cent” believed meat sold was halal lamb. Hoque’s co-defendant Mahmudur Rohman(46) of Rothbart Way, Peterborough has already denied knowledge of the alleged fraud at the now defunct Peterborough-based Dutch Bangla Ltd.

Mohammed Zunaid Hoque (25) of Uplands Road, Oadby, and Kamal Rahman (54) of Derby Drive, Peterborough, deny the charges against them. The trial continues on February 27.
