Friday 11.30am: A man has appeared in court today (11 July) charged with attempted murder following two stabbings in Peterborough.

Sabeil Parvez (27) of Alexandra Road, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court this morning, where he was charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Parvez, who wore a grey jumper and blue jeans, smiled at supporters in the public gallery as he entered the court.

He did not enter a plea during the short hearing, and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

The court was told the charges were too serious to be heard by magistrates, and the case was adjourned until Monday, July 14, when Parvez will appear at Cambridge Crown Court.

He was remanded into custody until the next hearing.

Police were called at just after 1.15pm on Wednesday (9 July) following the assaults in Lincoln Road, Millfield.

Two men were taken to hospital where their injuries were described as serious but non-life threatening.

A police spokesman said the men were in a ‘stable’ condition.
