A fundraising campaign to help the family of a Peterborough pizza delivery driver killed last week has been set up by a former city Apprentice star.
Father of two Ali Qasemi, 45, of Birchtree Avenue, Peterborough, was delivering pizzas when the attack happened in Shrewsbury Avenue, in the early hours of Sunday, May 8.
He was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, but sadly died this week.
His wife, who is expecting the couple’s third child paid tribute to Mr Qasimi, and said: “My husband was my everything; my best friend, my soul mate, my life partner and an amazing father. He was such a caring and helpful person and was always there for his family and friends.
“This is a very hard time for me and our two children. We are expecting our third child and my heart aches that he won’t be here to see them all grow up.”
Now, Nurun Ahmed, who appeared on BBC reality TV competition The Apprentice in 2014, has started a campaign to raise money for Mr Qasimi’s family - and in less than three days has already raised more than £2,000.
She said: “I was deeply taken back by the news, especially in hearing that Ali has left behind 2 young children and a pregnant wife.
“I set up a crowd funding page on Wednesday 11th May and within 2 days I have raised over £2,500. I feel that charity starts at home and we should help those in need here in the UK first regardless of race, religion or creed. Many have donated from different communities. And it’s times like this that brings and bonds communities together.
“I took advantage of the 10,000 friends and followers I have on FB and posted a status. One anonymous person donated £500.”
Mark Lintott, 29, of Shrewsbury Avenue, Peterborough, and Joel Lawson, 25, of Goodhale Road, Norwich, have both been charged with robbery. The latter was also charged with possession of cannabis.
They have been remanded into custody to appear at Peterborough Crown Court on June 8.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cambridgeshire police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
