THE city's most beautiful women are being urged to sign up for the new look Miss Peterborough contest.

THE city's most beautiful women are being urged to sign up for the new look Miss Peterborough contest. This year, the contest has a new venue, new organisers and a new philosophy.

Though the search still focuses on finding the city's most beautiful and talented woman, there will be no swimwear round for bikini clad beauties and the event will focus more heavily on raising funds for charity.

Deb Burbage (38), who is organising the contest with husband Chris (36), said: "My mother died of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma last year.

"She was so well cared for by the nurses in Ward 2Y and Clinic 8 at Peterborough District Hospital and we wanted to highlight what they do.

"So the girls who go through to the finals will raise money for them. "We also wanted to take it away from the bikini clad culture of previous events."

Deb and Chris, of Essendyke in Bretton, believe this year's contest could be the best yet.

Although this is the first time they have organised a beauty pageant, the couple have sponsored a number of similar events around the country through their jewellery business, FAC Peterborough.

Deb said: "We're really excited about it. When we heard the licence to run it was up for renewal, we thought it would be a good idea to get involved."

This year's event will be held at the Holiday Inn, at Thorpe Wood, on March 26.

Deb said she is already impressed with the standard of entrants and added: "We want as many girls as possible to get involved. We want to bring some glamour and glitz to Peterborough."

Last year's contest was won by 22-year-old logistics administrator Milla Molchanova, who triumphed after a five-hour competition at Radius, above The Solstice, in Northminster.
