Allotment-holders in Whittlesey are flush with success after winning a £10,000 grant for a new loo.

The top of the range eco-toilet was unveiled at New Road allotments by Whittlesey Mayor Councillor Kay Mayor.

Lynne Simpson, chair of the Whittlesey Allotment Society, said: “It is a great convenience and such a relief to have it on the site, especially for the ladies.

“It means we can stay on the allotment for much longer, without the need to rush home every few hours.”

The sparkling new facility uses sawdust and was finally christened after 14 months of planning and funding applications by the determined horticulturalists. Backers Glassmoor Bank came to the rescue, stumping up a grant for £10,068.
