Artistic pupils from a Peterborough school had the chance to meet the city’s first citizens after impressing in a festive competition.

Fifteen youngsters from the junior department of The King’s (The Cathedral) School, in Park Road, met with the Mayor and Mayoress of Peterborough George and Sylvia Simons at Town Hall, in Bridge Street.

The group were selected for the visit based on the strength of their entries in a competition organised by member of Peterborough City Council Cllr John Shearman to design a Christmas card for his ward.

Head of the junior department David Ludford said the pupils enjoyed the visit, which included a question and answer session.

He said: “They loved it.”
