Hundreds of people have turned out to enjoy a Christmas lights spectacular at the home of a Turves couple.

Robert Dempsey and his wife Amanda reckon they have put up one million coloured festive lights in the grounds of their home, Willow House, in Duncombe’s Road.

Already, visitors to the lights have donated £1,900 to Cancer Research UK, the couple’s chosen charity.

Mr Dempsey, who runs Professional Protective Coatings, said: “We chose the charity because I lost my mother, Esther, to cancer two years ago and a friend died of cancer last year.

He said: “We are delighted with response to the lights. This is the first time we’ve had so many lights and we hope to make the display bigger and better next year. It has not been without problems.

“When I first put the lights on it blew out a transformer down the road.

“That’s fixed and I now use a generator to power most of the lights.”
