A woman queued outside Peterborough’s new Aldi store for more than 36-hours in order to win herself a 42” television.

More than 300 people gathered outside Aldi’s newest store in Hampton ready for its opening at 8am this morning, Thursday September 24.

All wanted to get their hands on a golden envelope and find a ‘golden ticket’ in order to win prizes including a 42” TV, two 10” Tablet PCs and three 24” TVs.

But Pamela Pacifico walked away with the star prize after queuing for the Thursday opening since Tuesday!

Aldi Store Manager Dan Goodson said: “We were surprised to see so many shoppers outside our new store in Hampton this morning, and one brave shopper even queued from Tuesday afternoon, which is one of the earliest times we’ve ever had at one of our store openings.”

The new store was officially opened by the Store Manager Dan Goodson, the Mayor of Peterborough, Cllr John Peach, and Chas Ryan from the Hampton Community Sports Association, who took part in a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

Manager, Dan Goodson added: “My team and I very much enjoyed welcoming the new customers to our store and the turnout was brilliant. We hope the shoppers enjoyed our celebrations and I would like to thank everyone for their support.

“We are still actively recruiting for the Peterborough store and I would encourage members of the local community to apply for a variety of roles on offer to become part of our team.”

The opening of the Hampton store has created 50 new jobs within the local community. More information on all roles at Aldi and how to apply can be found online at www.aldirecruitment.co.uk.

As part of Aldi’s engagement with the local community, the store will be supporting Hampton Tiddlers by making a product donation to the parent and toddler group.

The Hampton store, Aldi’s third to open in the area, served hot Aldi bacon and sausage sandwiches and food samples of products to customers throughout the morning, and provided entertainment for local families during the day.

Following its launch, the store on Brickburn Close, Hampton Centre, Peterborough, PE7 8NZ is now open: Monday – Saturday 8am – 10pm, Sunday 10am – 4pm
