A Peterborough pub which served up a warm welcome along with perfect pints has been named Best Bar 2014.

The Crown, in Lincoln Road, New England was voted as the winner of the Peterborough Telegraph Best Bar competition by readers.

Landlord John Lawrence , who is pictured with staff Pam Mead and Peter Turnbull, said: “This is the culmination of two years of work since we re-opened the pub, the first pub I have ever run, and is a great reward for the staff and customers who have supported us.

“I wanted to re-create a traditional local boozer, with a good range of beers, ales, and ciders, a friendly family atmosphere, and lots going on to entertain customers; I think this win means we are doing that.”

The College Arms in Broadway was runner up.

Thanks to all those who voted.
