STAFF at Atkins Peterborough Office, in Orton Southgate, got on their bikes as the firm recently installed a new bike shed, enabling staff to securely fasten 14 bikes year round. The bike shed was unveiled during the annual Bike2Work event. The objective of the event was to get as many staff in the office as possible to travel differently on one day, with the aim of showing them that it's not hard to cycle or lift-share once in a while, or even, more regularly.

Atkins, in conjunction with Peterborough City Council, hase developed a Travel Plan for its office – measures include promotion of cycling and lift sharing through participation in Bike2Work week and National Lift Share Day, raising staff awareness through a travel notice board.

Benefits include reduced pressure on car parking spaces; reduced congestion; fitter, healthier, less stressed staff; and environmental benefits

Atkins is the largest engineering consultancy in the UK. The Atkins Peterborough office employs about 100 people working in a diverse range of disciplines, including transport planning, civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering and environmental consultancy.
