A long established dry cleaning business in Peterborough has expanded with the acquisition of a rival.

Peters’ Cleaners, which has shops in Mayor’s Walk and Lincoln Road, Peterborough, and St Paul’s Street, Stamford, has just bought Swift Laundry in Benedict Square, Werrington.

The value of the acquisition has not been released but bosses say the deal will improve service for both businesses and allow it to attract new customers.

The laundry will be rebranded under the Peters’ Cleaners name but new owner, Vicky Whiter, says there will be not be any changes to service.

The business is supported by two operational hubs and employs a team of 18 staff.

Vicky said: “What excites me about taking over at Swift is that it is a different style of business to ours and has a new geographic location.

“They work with a lot of businesses north and west of Peterborough and I know that by combining what we already do with what they do, we’ll be able to offer a lot more to our current and new clients.

Vicky, who lives in Nassington with her husband Dan and daughter Charlotte, six, has bought the business from Kallum Errico, 24, and his mother, Sarah.

The laundry will be run by Peter Stiehl, who has worked at Peters’ Cleaners for 30 years and has extensive knowledge in commercial and domestic fabric care.

Vicky added: “Running the laundry and commercial linen hire side of the business will add another string to our bow and give us additional capacity to work with high-quality pubs and hotels in the area.

“Swifts already has a brilliant reputation among its commercial and domestic clients and teamed with Peters’ we will continue to grow its reputation under the Peters’ Cleaners banner. We have a bright future ahead of us.”

Peters’ Cleaners was established by Peter Grist in 1963 and remained in the Grist family until his recent retirement.
