Drop in Jobseeker's Allowance claimants in Peterborough

Peterborough has seen another decline in the number of people claiming unemployment benefits.

The total number of Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants in June was 1,415, down from 1,500 in May and 2,255 12 months ago.

For people aged 18 to 24, the number of JSA claimants is 235, down from 255 in May and 525 a year ago.

Julia Nix, district manager for East Anglia at JobCentre Plus, said the labour market is feeling “healthy and buoyant” in Peterborough.

The unemployment rate nationally is 4.9 per cent.

Average wages before bonuses grew by 2.2 per cent over the last year.
